Although Cersei Lannister of House Lannister, FIrst of her name, Queen of the Seven Kingdoms, Queen of the Andals and the First Men was crowned with Westerosi Lords and Ladies wishing her Long may she reign, Cersei’s reign might not last long until the end of the season 7 let alone season 8.

The mother who lost all her children has been at her wicked best where she took the perfect revenge from Ellaria Sand for killing her daughter with help of Euron Greyjoy. Cersei has two capable commanders by her side who can protect her reign; Euron to command the biggest naval armada and her brother Ser Jaime Lannister to command the biggest Westerosi army of Lannister Lions. Do not forget the strength of The Mountain and the knowledge of Maester Qyburn.

Cersei made sure 2 of her rival kingdoms were dismantled before the Great War even begin. The Dornish have no leader and Tyrells defeated Cersei is more powerful than ever but not safe. She has many rivals, Danaerys being the biggest threat of them all. Will she defeat Cersi and end up on the Iron Throne or someone else would end up there? Let’s take a look at the top 5 contenders who might win the Iron Throne.

5. Cersei’s child

Game of Thrones

Is he the Prince that was promised? The prince who is yet to be born is surely one of the biggest surprises of the storyline. Cersei was clearly lost after the death of her 3 children but this prince brings hope to the Lannisters.

As we saw in the season finale, Tyrion might have struck a deal with Cersei. Danaerys is unable to give birth to a child and her successor can be this prince. Maybe the reason why Tyrion looked confused seeing Jon and Danaerys together.

Hopefully the prince may survive to carry on the legend of the Lannister name and his father Ser Jaime Lannister.

4. Tyrion Lannister

Game of Thrones

He is not a warrior like his brother but certainly a great tactician like his father Lord Tywin Lannister. Currently serving as the hand of Queen Danaerys Targaryen, Tyrion is clearly his Queen’s most trusted advisor.

From being a worshiper of the God of tits and wine, Tyrion has come a long way surviving a rough journey to where he is now. Tyrion might be the successor of Danaerys after all. Her life is in danger whenever she rides a dragon to the warfront and Tyrion being her deputy and the brain behind her he might be the person who sits on the Iron Throne.

3. Jon Snow

Game of Thrones

The bastard of honourable Ned Stark is not a bastard anymore. Sam and Bran discovered that he’s the legitimate son of Prince Rhaegar Targaryen and the legitimate heir to the Iron Throne. The red women knew who he was and she did a great job bringing him back to life.

Jon is another who survived a lot of obstacles in his journey of Game of Thrones. He’s the person who united the Night’s Watch and wildlings. He was elected Lord Commander of the Night’s Watch. He was named king in the North by all Lords of the North (and yes Lady Lyanna Mormont).

Jon bent the knee(and much more) in front of Danaerys in the season finale. He’s the only king who doesn’t need to be king.

As the rightful heir to the Iron Throne and if everyone learns his legitimacy for the crown he might be named the one true king of all seven kingdoms. King Aegon VI Targaryen has a nice ring to it.

2. Daenerys Targaryan

Game of Thrones

Daenerys of the House Targaryen, the First of Her Name, The Unburnt, Queen of the Andals, the Rhoynar and the First Men, Queen of Meereen, Khaleesi of the Great Grass Sea, Protector of the Realm, Lady Regnant of the Seven Kingdoms, Breaker of Chains and Mother of Dragons

Well that’s a long title isn’t it?

Danaerys is the only living daughter of deceased king Aerys II Targaryen. She had to live her life far away from her home since her birth. She was controlled and traded off by her own brother Viserys.

She found love with Khal Drogo but lost him in an unfortunate way. Ever since she has risen from strength to strength. Her 3 children have played a huge role in making her a formidable force in Essos where she conquered cities to free slaves and establish law and order.

Danaerys has a proven record being a good leader and being someone who has always inspired the weak. She wants to break the wheel and she might actually break it. Danaerys sitting on the Iron Throne might be the perfect ending to the show.

But still nothing can be predicted in Game of Thrones.

1. Night King

Game of Thrones

This might come as a surprise. The Night King? Really?

Why not? Anything is possible in the World of Game of Thrones.

Night King has the most powerful army in the whole World: The army of the dead. Whenever a battle between the army of the dead and the living is completed his army doubles.

Thanks to the blue fire breathing resurrected Viserion, Night King managed to destroy a part of the Wall which stood between them and the living for thousands of years.

As you may have noticed in the season finale, winter has reached King’s Landing. It means Night’s King is the strongest competitor to claim the seven kingdoms. He might actually don’t want to sit on the Iron Throne per se but clearly would love to rule them all. A dynasty of the dead with no wars among each other? Maybe he’s the Prince that was promised after all!
